They're both probably about 8 months old now.  Can you believe it?  They're monsters-but they're SO sweet!

  1. Hi Christine,

I'm a long time admirer of your work and your beautiful home. I enjoy reading your website, and especially your posts on OHWW. I read your post this morning about the Chanute KS house--yes, yes, Christine--you could turn that house into a fabulous show place. I couldn't think of another who would do it better than you.

Christine, could you help me? I want to restore the finish of our foyer stairway (treads & risers). It is the only stairway to get upstairs to bedrooms and laundry room--so I need your advise how I can plan the project to work on half the stairway at a time. I don't know anything about refinishing woodwork but I'd like to learn. If you like, I could send you some photos? Could you add a "how to" section to your blogsite?
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. D. www.1893victorianfarmhouse.blogspot.com

  2. Hi Mrs. D.

Isn't that Chanute house great? I'd love to get my hands on that place!

I have a mental list of things for the "Restoration of a Queen" series that includes some of the projects and experiments of how we did various things. Restoring the only staircase in the house while still trying to use it hadn't crossed my mind until you mentioned it, but that would be a great one. Actually, I've had that situation before and will try to post it tomorrow. It's easy, temporarily inconvenient, but with good results.

I also have in mind to showcase some really good examples of kitchens that compliment old houses. When I think "awesome kitchen" a picture of yours jumps into my head. Do you mind if I use photos of your fantastic kitchen when I do that post? I have major kitchen envy! :)

  3. Hi Christine,

Thanks for considering adding a "how to restore staircase" to your Restoration of a Queen series.

BTW, I'm really flattered you'd like to use pictures of our kitchen as an example. I have lots of "before" and "work in progress" photos to share.

So, how do I get your email address? Or, do you want mine? Let me know.

    Linda (Mrs. D)
